NHL's Leafs to give Redmen rearguard a second look

Published: 5 August 2010

MONTREAL -- The Toronto Maple Leafs have invited McGill University defenceman Marc-André Dorion to rookie camp this fall after he impressed at their prospects camp in July.

The camp is slated for Sept. 11-14 at the John Labatt Centre in London, Ont., and will feature a tournament that includes Maple Leafs prospects playing games against rookie teams from the Ottawa Senators, Pittsburgh Penguins and the Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks.

It will be the second official National Hockey League rookie camp for Dorion, a 5-foot-11, 188-pound native of St. Hubert, Que., who earned all-Canadian honours last season and was named as the most outstanding defenceman in Canadian university men's hockey. He previously attended the Dallas Stars rookie camp in 2008.

"The Leafs prospects camp was tough because I hadn't skated much since the end of the playoffs in March," said Dorion, a 22-year-old physical education major, who earned all-star status in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League before being recruiting to McGill in 2008. "I'm relatively happy with how I performed but I know that I will be more comfortable at the upcoming rookie camp because I will have had some ice time in advance to prepare."

Dorion was the top-scoring blueliner in the Ontario University Athletics conference during the 2009-10 schedule and ranked third among all CIS rearguards with 36 points, including seven goals, in 25 regular season games. Overall, he had a 12-14-26 record with 36 penalty minutes in 42 contests.

Tickets are on sale at the John Labatt Centre by phone at (866) 455-2849 or online at www.johnlabattcentre.com.  Ticket prices for evening games are $19.25 for adults or $14.25 for students, seniors and children. Prices for the afternoon games are $16.75 and $11.75.
