National Post: Don't leave IT to the techies

Businesses around the world are suffering from a chronic disease that has been vastly overlooked and misdiagnosed. It's called Information Systems Failure, and almost all businesses at some point in time have fallen victim to its effects… Yeona Jang, professor of practice management, at McGill University, says one of the biggest examples of a failed information system is Canada's bungled eHealth initiative. The federal government spent $1.6-billion on the project over the past decade, a sum matched by the provinces. Despite this investment, and a scandal or two, the project has fallen behind schedule in its objective to introduce electronic health records across Canada. Prof. Jang says McGill analysis shows a major reason the project stumbled is the failure of management to become adequately involved in the design of the system.
