MUHC researchers achieve success in CIHR research awards

Published: 29 March 2006

Eighteen scientists from the Research Institute of the MUHC received operating grants from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) in their most recent competition. The awards represent a 26% success rate for MUHC scientists, compared to the national average of 24%. The operating grants will help fund research into cancer, cardiovascular disease, infectious diseases, diabetes, assisted reproduction, radiotherapy and asthma.

"I am pleased with the achievements of our researchers — yet again we have scored above the national average," said Dr. Emil Skamene, Scientific Director of the Research Institute of the MUHC. "This funding will help maintain the diverse and innovative research environment of our Institute."

"Our research program is a cornerstone of the MUHC and is intimately linked to the clinical practices of the health centre as a whole," noted Dr. Arthur Porter, Executive Director of the MUHC. "The redevelopment of the MUHC on the Glen and Mountain campuses will further strengthen this valuable and award-winning continuum."

The MUHC would like to congratulate all our award-winning researchers.
