Morin-Boucher plays hero role again as Martlets win tourney, extend streak to five

Published: 29 August 2010

KINGSTON, ONT. -- Alexandra Morin-Boucher netted the game-winner in the 29th minute and rookie keeper Valérie Labbé earned a shutout as the McGill women's soccer team coasted to a 1-0 road victory over Toronto to capture the Old Four tourney, Sunday.

It extended their preseason win streak to five consecutive games and marked the seventh consecutive championship for the Martlets at the Old Four.

"We lost control of the game after we scored and were on our heels the rest of the the way but we defend very well and that is why we have won five in a row," said Marc Mounicot, head coach of the Martlets. "The key point is that we have now beaten three teams who were at the CIS championships last year and we have conceded only one goal against those teams."

The Martlets next game will at Molson stadium on Wednesday (Sept. 1) against the Ottawa Gee-Gees.  Kickoff is slated for at 6 p.m.

In the consolation game, the University of Western Ontario blanked Queen's 1-0, finishing the tournament with one win and one loss. Steph Mannelis scored the lone goal in the 78th minute. Jodie Scoular was in net for the Mustangs, recording the clean sheet.
