Morin-Boucher nets two as soccer Martlets battle Laval to 2-2 draw

ST. HYACINTHE -- Alexandra Morin-Boucher scored two nice goals as McGill battled Laval to a 2-2 draw in women's indoor soccer on Saturday afternoon in Saint Eustache. The bitter rivals remain tied atop the standings.

Morin-Boucher leads all QSSF scorers with eight markers in only four games.

It was a physical game, McGill finished the game with 10 players after Maggie Keating was ejected in the 88th minute after receiving a second yellow card.

"Even if we deserved the draw, we did not play smart soccer for most of the game," said McGill head coach Marc Mounicot.  "We were not able to build-up in the midfield, we did not win battles in the air and we were  dominated in the middle third by a strong Laval midfield line. We were strong  at the back except we gave up two similar goals on set plays, which displayed a weakness in the air."

The two McGill goals marked the first time that Laval had been beaten this season.

"Scoring and being able to generate some good plays was good for us, but we were missing some key players (due to injury) at the back and we looked very inexperienced at times," said Mounicot. "We will have to defend better next weekend in Sherbrooke (Feb. 14, 5 pm) when we face the dynamic duo of Belanger and Belhumeur and once again the first place will be on the line.
