The hope of early diagnosis for autism took a step forward on
Thursday as a new study from the Montreal Neurological Institute
and Hospital showed that signs of autism may be detected in the
brain of infants as young as 6 months old.
The finding, which was published in the American Journal of
Psychiatry, could lead to early intervention for children with
autism.
Using specialized screening, the study found significant
differences in the brain development of infants at high risk for
autism starting as early as 6 months.
