McINTYRE FIRE ALARM UPDATE

Published: 22 March 2011

IMPORTANT -Fire Alarm Update

Please note that the recent fire alarm (Monday March 21) was not a drill, but triggered by smoke caused by external contractors who cut a large steel bolt with a grinder adjacent to the 4th floor ventilation system.   Users were only allowed back into the building after ventilation was set to evacuate the smell & smoke and it was safe to return. As a result of this incident, contractors will no longer be permitted to work in the 4th floor mechanical room during the day. Adequate measures will be taken prior to any work being carried out in the future.

The fire prevention system has now been reset and is functional.

At this time, we would like to stress that the McIntyre building will NOT be subject to any fire drills until the fall (as advised in previous notices). Any fire alarms which may be triggered will be real alarms and MUST be taken seriously, particularly during the renovations presently underway.
