McGill's Morin named RSEQ male athlete of the week

Published: 21 February 2012

MONTREAL - Hubert Morin of the McGill men's hockey team and Pascale Délisle, a pentathlete with the Sherbrooke Vert & Or, have been picked as athletes of the week by the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec, for the period ending Feb. 19, 2012.

It marks the 10th time in 20 weeks that a McGill nomination has won the RSEQ weekly award this season.

Morin, a 5-foot-10, 185-pound goaltender from St. Georges de Beauce, Que., won both of his playoff starts last week. He posted a 1.50 goals-against average, along with a stingy .946 save percentage as McGill swept their best-of-three quarter-final series against Queen's, winning 3-2 on home-ice last Wednesday and 5-1 in Kingston on Friday. The 24-year-old civil engineering senior saved 53 of 56 shots over the two games.

A product of St. Lawrence in the Quebec Jr. AAA league, Morin entered McGill in 2008 out of College Beauce Appalaches.

Previous RSEQ honorees from McGill this season include swimmer Steven Bielby (three times: Jan. 24, Oct. 25 and Nov. 15), hockey players Mélodie Daoust (Jan. 31), Ann-Sophie Bettez (Jan. 17), Marc-Andre Dorion (Jan. 10) and Leslie Oles (Nov. 22), plus Gideon Balloch (rugby, Nov. 8) and Brianna Miller (rugby, Sept. 12).
