McGill's Love appointed Canada's chef-de-mission for Games in Serbia
MONTREAL -- Drew Love, director of athletics and recreation at McGill University has been appointed chef-de-mission for the Canadian delegation to the 25th Summer Universiade, also know as the World University Games, in Belgrade, Serbia, July 1-12.
Love, a Montreal resident originally from Ottawa, replaces Dick White who recently stepped down from the post for professional reasons.
Love brings an extensive background in sports administration. He served as chef-de-mission for the 2003 Winter Universiade in Italy, is a past-president of both Ontario University Athletics (2001-02) and Canadian Interuniversity Sport (2003-05) and spent 11 years as director of athletics and recreation at Carleton University before replacing Prof. Derek Drummond at McGill who retired in 2007.
It marks the third time that a McGill employee as served as chef-de-mission of the Games. Robert Dubeau, who served as athletics director from 1977 to 2005, was Canada’s chef-de-mission in Edmonton (1983) and Spain (1999).
