McGill team wins this year’s BCF Cup

Published: 14 April 2008

BCL/LLB students François Beaudry and Claude Lévesque won this year’s provincial round of the Face à Face oratorical contest, which was held last April 4 at Université Laval. Claude and François debatted two questions, which were the renewal of Canada’s military mission in Afghanistan and the promotion of English in highschools through immersion teaching. After two rounds of debates, the judges declared them the winners of the BCF Cup. According to Claude, the subjects put to debate in this year’s edition were “quite varied”. The Face à Face oratorical contest is now ten years old. Each year, law student associations from Quebec universities and from Ottawa U. each send a team of two students to represent them. The teams debate contemporary issues and questions put to them, defending their positions before a bench of three judges who evaluate them on established criteria. The contest aims to help law students refine their pleading and debating skills.
