McGill swimmer Bielby picked as RSEQ athlete of the week

MONTREAL -- Steven Bielby of the McGill University swim team has been named male athlete of the week the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec, for the period ending Nov. 13, 2011.

 

Éva Thouvenot-Hébert, a soccer player with the Montreal Carabins, won the nomination on the women's side.

 

A native of Pte. Claire, Que., who measures 5-foot-8 and 155 pounds, Bielby earned four gold medals and was named swimmer of the meet for the third time this season, as McGill finished second in the third Quebec Cup swim meet of the campaign at the University's Memorial Pool, Sunday.

 

The 22-year-old electrical engineering senior racked up a meet-high 644 points on the FINA scale. He won the 200-metre freestyle (1:52.57), the 400 individual medley (4:26.73) and the 100 butterfly (56.24). He also contributed to a win in the 4x100 freestyle relay (3:28.85). Bielby is a product of John Abbott College.
