McGill rowing results from national championships

WELLAND, ONT -- McGill freshman Jonathan Rinaldi and junior Brent Hopkins of Montreal finished fourth in the B final of the light men's pair at the Canadian rowing championships, in Welland, Ont., Sunday.

Representing Quebec, the duo completed the two-kilometre race in seven minutes, 17.29 seconds. A team from British Columbia won the heat in 7:13.97, and the winning time in the A final was 6:58.04 by a team representing the national training center.

Last Thursday, at the Canadian University Rowing Championships, they rowed for McGill lightweight eight and finished eighth of nine boats. The same day, they finished 11th of 14 boats in a time trial (7:41.75). In the repechage on Friday, they won their heat in a time of 7:09.73, to qualify for Sunday's B final.

The top McGill performance on the women's side was by Ulrika Drevniok, a fifth-year veteran from Gatineau, Que., who finished fourth in the heavyweight single.
