Martlets open 2012 indoor season with shutout over UQAM

Published: 15 January 2012

MONTREAL -- The McGill women's soccer team opened the 2012 indoor season with a convincing 2-0 win against UQAM at the Marie-Victorin soccer centre, Sunday.

Stephanie Avery and Selena Colarossi each scored goals and goalkeeper Victoria Muccilli had a easy afternoon facing just one shot on net.

"We have a very different team this semester than we did in the fall," said Marc Mounicot, head coach of the Martlets. Five seniors (Wakeling, Green, Hooper, Morin-Boucher, Smith) played their last game in the fall and four others (Bell, Armstrong, Lasso and Bahen) have gone overseas on exchange programs. Three others (Wilson, Sansar and Burrows) will miss the season with injurues.

"So we work with young players who have to prove themselves and they started with a good performane today showing good control and decent fitness level. We will face Montreal next weekend and it will be a good test for them to play the best team in our conference."
