Kirby's tally ties soccer Vikes on west coast

LANGLEY, B.C. -- Hannah Kirby, a sophomore midfielder from Kanata, Ont., scored the tying goal late in the first half as McGill rallied for a 1-1 draw against the University of Victoria in CIS preseason women's soccer at Rogers Field in Langley, B.C., Sunday.

 

The goal was set by by sophomore forward Stephanie Avery of Tsawwassen, B.C.

 

McGill goalkeeper Victoria Villalba, a fifth-year veteran from Montreal, started and was credited with the tie. She conceded one goal and was replaced at halftime by sophomore Victoria Muccilli of Mississauga, Ont., who blanked the Vikes the rest of the way.

 

The Martlets, who lost 3-2 at Trinity Western on Friday, return home to Montreal with a 2-3-1 record in preseason play. They are slated to open regular season play in the the Quebec conference on Sept. 9, when they play at Bishop's. Head coach Marc Mounicot will be looking for his 200th career victory behind the McGill bench. He previously won his 100th game against Bishop's.
