Him-Lazarenko and Dufort named McGill - Olde Orchard athletes of the week



MONTREAL - Anneth Him-Lazarenko of Laval, Que., and Vincent Dufort of Smiths Falls, Ont., are the McGill University - Ye Olde Orchard athletes of the week, for the period ending Feb. 5, 2012.


Him-Lazarenko, a 5-foot-10 power forward with the women's basketball team, registered "double-doubles" in consecutive victories over Bishop's and Laval, scoring a combined 37 points and grabbing 25 rebounds. The 24-year-old native of Panama City shot 44.4 per cent from the field (12/27) and 76.5 per cent from the foul-line (13/17) to go along with a pair of steals. She tallied 18 points and 12 rebounds in Friday's 63-55 victory at Bishop's and the next night, collected 19 points and 13 rebounds in a 69-64 home-court win over Laval. An education senior who is majoring in secondary social science, she is a product of Vanier College.


Dufort, a 6-foot-4, 190-pound point-guard with the men's basketball squad, scored 34 points and pulled down 11 rebounds as McGill swept a pair of victories over Bishop's and Laval last week. The 19-year-old physical education freshman shot 46.2 per cent from the floor (12-for-26), including a 6-for-15 effort from three-point range, and connected on all four of his attempts from the free-throw line. He added seven assists, a pair of blocked shots and three steals. Prior to enrolling at McGill, he played for Smiths Falls high school.


Both athletes will receive a gift certificate from Ye Olde Orchard Pub.
