Gas main emergency is over

Around noon on Tuesday, August 11, a gas main was inadvertently ruptured in the course of construction work near the corner of University and Sherbrooke Streets. As a precaution, the Otto Maass Chemistry Building, Royal Victoria College, Burnside Hall and the Pulp and Paper Institute were safely evacuated. It is estimated that approximately 200 people were asked to leave those buildings. The pipe was sealed within an hour and people were shortly thereafter allowed to proceed back into the affected buildings. The emergency situation is over
