Free Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus software for students

Published: 19 August 2014

Starting today, August 19, McGill students have free access to the latest version of Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus, which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other Office apps. You may download and install it on up to five compatible personal devices, including PCs, Macs, iPhones, iPads, and Android smartphones and tablets.

As long as you’re a student at McGill University, you’ll be able to continue to use Office 365 ProPlus at no charge, and will receive automatic software updates.

IT Services will roll out additional features of Office 365 in future phases, including:

  • 1 terabyte (TB) of online storage for your files in OneDrive
  • Improved email functionality, and a massive boost in storage space for your McGill email
(it will increase from 300MB to 50GB)

Updates on the status of this project will be provided on a regular basis throughout the year on the McGill IT Services site and myMcGill portal.

As part of the initiation of the Office 365 project, a wide range of security and privacy concerns were addressed. We want to assure you that while you do log in at Microsoft’s Office 365 download site with your McGill Username and Password, the credentials are verified through McGill servers and are not kept by Microsoft.
