Four Martlets earn Quebec all-conference honours

MONTREAL – Four members of the McGill Martlets have been named among 16 Quebec university women’s rugby all-stars announced by the Quebec Student Sports Federation, Thursday.

Fullback Briana Yerbury of Dorval, Que., was selected along with teammates flanker Amandra Mongeon of Ile. Bizard, Que., forward Lauren Rudko of Montreal and fly-half Elissa Alarie of Trois-Rivières.

Yerbury, who is also the reigning St. Patrick’s Day parade queen, is a 20-year-old history sophomore, while Mongeon, 20, is an arts & science sophomore. Rudko is a 22-year-old senior in International Development Studies and Alarie, 22, is a first-year English major.

The all-conference team included five players from first-place Laval, three members of the Concordia Stingers, two from Ottawa and one apiece from Sherbrooke and Bishop’s.

The QSSF league championship game, between second-place Concordia (4-2) and the undefeated Laval Rouge et Or (6-0), is scheduled for Sunday at PEPS Stadium in Quebec City at 1:30 p.m.
