Five Redmen earn lacrosse all-conference status

MONTREAL - Five members of the McGill Redmen have merited LaxShack all-conference honours from the Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association, which ties the school high for most honourees, established in 2008.

 

Redmen goaltender Guy Fox of Glen Rock, N.J., was named along with teammates Sepp Stephens, a defender from Chapel Hill, N.C., long-stick midfielder Dave Hogarth of Toronto, defensive midfielder Jishan Sharples of Vancouver, B.C., and midfielder Ryan Besse of Aurora, Ont., have all earned a spot on the 13-member CUFLA East Division squad, which also includes four players from Carleton, two from Bishop's, plus one apiece from Toronto and Trent.

 

The West Division honourees included six representatives from Guelph, four from Brock and three from McMaster.

 

Bishop's attackman Mike Dube of Brockville, Ont., was selected league MVP after tying for the scoring championship. He was also named the league's most outstanding attacker. In 10 regular season games he scored 29 goals and 39 points.

 

The McMaster Maruaders received coaching-staff-of-the-year honours after winning the league's Baggataway Cup championship. Led by head coach Ed Comeau and his staff composed of Jason Tallevi, Serge Bianchin and Shawn Maloney, the Marauders registered a 5-5 regular season record and then posted three straight playoff upsets over Guelph, Bishop's and Brock to capture  the CUFLA banner.

 

Other CUFLA major awards winners was Guelph's Justin Wilson-Kirby (most outstanding graduating player), Toronto's Michael Budwala (rookie of the year), Brock's Dustin Dunn (midfielder of the year), Bishop's Greg Hartnett (defensive player of the year) and Guelph's Jeremy Snider (goaltender of the year).
