MONTREAL - Mélodie Daoust, a freshman from Valleyfield, Que., registered a hat-trick and added an assist as McGill skated to an easy 6-0 conquest of the Ottawa Gee-Gees in women's university hockey at McConnell Arena, Friday.

It marked McGill's 36th consecutive victory over Ottawa and improved the team's lifetime record to 66-11-7 against the Gee-Gees, who haven't defeated the Martlets since a 2-1 decision in the nation's capital on Feb. 7, 2007.

McGill chalked up a lopsided 39-11 edge in shots as fifth-year goaltender Charline Labonté from Boisbriand, Que., made 11 saves to post her CIS-leading seventh shutout in 16 starts, improving to 14-2. She has extended her CIS career record shutout record to 44 and improved her CIS lifetime record to 79-3.

The Martlets led 1-0 after the first period on a goal by Ann-Sophie Bettez and extended that to 3-0 after two when Daoust struck twice in the middle stanza.

Leslie Oles made it 4-0 at 5:13 of the final period and 14 seconds later, Daoust completed her hat-trick. Only 39 seconds after that, Daoust set up linemate Katia Clement-Heydra, who completed the scoring with her league-leading 17th of the season. Clement-Heydra also added three helpers.

Daoust's four-point soiree moved her into a deadlock with Bettez atop the Quebec conference scoring race. Both have identical totals of 13 goals and 36 points but Daoust has played two fewer games.

McGill improved to 16-1-1 atop the RSEQ standings with three games remaining before playoffs. The division-leading Martlets play at third-placed Carleton (7-6-3) on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
