Congratulations Class of 2012

Published: 3 April 2012

Congratulations Class of 2012!   We would like to send you our warmest regards on behalf of the Career Planning Service (CaPS) and Development and Alumni Relations (DAR).  Your hard work, dedication and perseverance have paid off; you should be very proud of your accomplishments.

Many doors will be opening for you as you take the next steps in your career. If you are unsure about which step to take first, McGill Career Planning Service (CaPS) is available to help.

myFuture for life (www.mcgill.ca/myfuture)

myFuture is a university wide job search and career tool suite used by McGill's Career Planning Service (CaPS), Engineering Career Centre, Law Career Development Office & Desautels Management Career Services.

It's an efficient way to search for:

  • full-time, part-time and summer jobs during your studies and after you graduate
  • McGill "in-program" internships
  • after-graduation internships

In addition to applying to jobs and internships, students may:

  • upload documents such as cover letters, CVs, transcripts, etc.
  • view employer profiles
  • register for events and workshops
  • sign up for interviews
  • view announcements and alerts

McGill Alumni who graduated with either a Bachelor, Masters or Ph.D. degree have access for life to the "myFuture" job search and career tools suite free of charge. However, Alumni do not have access to Information Sessions and are not eligible to participate in On-Campus Recruitment campaigns (which are reserved for current graduating students).

How to register for myFuture (for alumni who graduated in May 2007 or later)

You should already have a profile in myFuture. Go to: http://csm-caps.mcgill.ca/students and sign in. If you have any difficulty, phone CaPS at 514-398-3304.

How to register for myFuture (for alumni who graduated before May 2007)

Alumni who graduated before May 2007 must register in order to create their own profiles in myFuture. Some faculties have their own career centres which have different policies regarding service to alumni, so please send an email including your full name, McGill ID number, Faculty, year of graduation and major, email address, current mailing address and phone number to the appropriate link below to register:

Career services at CaPS for one more year free! (www.mcgill.ca/caps)

Although all alumni will have access to myFuture, access to other CaPS services (e.g. one-to-one advising, the Mentor Program, PACE Program, the Job Finding Club) will be restricted. All services will be free for up to one year after the end of the last semester in which they paid their Student Service fees. For the second and third years following graduation, alumni may opt-in to all services by paying $66.00 (tax included) per term. The timeframes of these terms are from September to December, January to April and May to August. Service is not available after three years.

The faculties of Law, Engineering and Management have their own career centres which have different policies regarding service to alumni. Please contact them for details.

Access to the McGill Alumni Online Community (aoc.mcgill.ca)

One of the best ways to keep connected to the University, and to graduates in 150 countries around the world, is to register for the Alumni Online Community. The Community is your gateway to worldwide alumni event listings and many exclusive networking features, including Reconnect and Find Classmates. To get your (free) signup code, go to http://aoc.mcgill.ca/. The last tab on the far right is the "login" tab; there you can follow instructions to join the Alumni Online Community.  You can also stay in contact through email - the "@mail.mcgill.ca" account you have been using as a student will automatically be extended for life when you graduate. If you have questions about either the Alumni Online Community or email for life, email aoc [at] mcgill.ca ().
