McGill University’s celebrated academic story continues to be enriched by the ambition and optimism of its graduates. Congratulations to all the Master’s and PhD students who will receive their hard-earned degrees this week during Convocation ceremonies from May 27 to June 3.  We are proud to welcome you to the illustrious network of scholars, alumni and supporters that make up the McGill community.

The regalia worn by graduates are an important element of all academic ceremonies. McGill’s doctoral graduates wear scarlet robes and scarlet hoods lined with pale green or black robes and scarlet hoods lined with the distinctive colour of their degree. Master’s graduates wear black robes and black hoods lined with the distinctive colour of their degree. Certificate and diploma recipients wear black gowns; if they have previously obtained a degree, they wear the hood of that degree.  Doctors of Philosophy wear black velvet bonnets, Master’s wear mortarboards.
