Published: 18 October 2016

Jordan de Souza, BMus'09, MMus'11 will become the Kapellmeister of the Komische Oper Berlin  beginning with the start of their 2017/18 season.  In his first season as Kapellmeister, he will conduct several repertoire pieces, direct one new production and lead an orchestra concert.

While at the Schulich School of Music, Jordan de Souza was a conducting student of Maestro Alexis Hauser, graduating from his conducting class with the highest possible marks.  "I remember Jordan's fantastic work as a student with me, and I am not surprised that in the short time time he has been in Berlin he has already made a huge impact within the Komische Oper Berlin," recalled Maestro Hauser.

Artistic Director and General Manager of the Komische Oper, Barrie Kosky, said "Jordan de Souza is a very talented and extremely interesting young conductor, who has both musical and theatre blood in his veins. We are very happy to welcome him as our next Kapellmeister."

De Souza is regular guest conductor at the Bregenz Festival and is Conductor-in-Residence at Tapestry Opera in Toronto. He is currently Head of Music at the Komische Oper.  He will be in Montréal, conducting the Opéra de Montréal's Don Giovanni this November.
