Civil Litigation Workshop celebrates 20-plus years at the Faculty of Law

Published: 11 May 2010

Over 85 graduates, faculty members, lawyers and judges gathered in Chancellor Day Hall's Atrium on May 6 to celebrate the continued significance of the Civil Litigation Workshop at the Faculty of Law.

James A. Woods, BA'70, BCL'73, LLB'74, founded the workshop more than two decades ago and continues to teach it with his daughter, Sarah Woods, BCL/LLB '03, using a combination of simulated trials, discovery techniques and examination tactics to train students in the nuances of civil law.

The event's august guest list included current and former judges - the Honourable Marie Deschamps, the Honourable Pierre A. Michaud, the Honourable Joseph R. Nuss and the Honourable John Gomery - as well as the workshop's many participants: practicing lawyers and judges who have helped teach the course and a healthy sampling of the 400 students who have taken the course as far back as 1988 and as recently as 2010.

James A. Woods is principal partner at Woods LLP. He also chairs the Faculty of Law's Advisory Board.
