CBIE honours champions of international education

Published: 26 October 2012

Ottawa, October 22, 2012 - The Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) is pleased to announce the winners of its 2012 Excellence Awards showcasing innovators, leaders, service professionals and emerging stars in our field.

This year marks the twelfth in which the CBIE Excellence Awards Program honours CBIE members and colleagues who demonstrate a deep commitment to international education and inspire our admiration.  Winners will be presented with their award on November 7 at CBIE’s 46th Annual Conference in Montréal at Le Centre Sheraton, capping four days of panels and discussions about the sector.

“It’s always a pleasure to reflect on the dedication, passion and achievements of our members,” said CBIE President and CEO Karen McBride. “The Excellence Awards are an opportunity for CBIE to recognize that the collective efforts of members, exemplified in these extraordinary individuals, truly make a difference in the advancement of our shared goals. It is my pleasure to thank them personally for their outstanding contributions.”

The Student Leadership in Internationalization Award, given to recognize outstanding student contributions to internationalization, will be awarded to a group at McGill University: Ms. Melanie Walsh, Ms. Nisha Shankar, Mr. Thomas Weber and Ms. Jun Yeo. They led the charity component of the Hot Cities of the World Tour, a course offered through the Desautels Faculty of Management that uses experiential learning to teach students about national competitiveness. They successfully partnered with a local NGO, developed and implemented a social media campaign, engaged the students, raised funds, and provided positive media exposure for McGill on an international scale.

CBIE congratulates all of our 2012 Excellence Award Winners and thanks them for their major contributions to our field.

The Canadian Bureau for International Education is Canada’s national organization dedicated to making Canada a global leader in international education. CBIE’s pan-Canadian membership comprises 150 colleges, institutes, universities, school boards and language schools which enroll over 1.2 million students from coast to coast.
