MONTREAL – Steven Bielby of Pointe Claire, Que., and Marie-Andrée Leclerc-Auger of Sherbrooke, Que., are the McGill University athletes of the week for the period ending Nov. 23, 2008.

Bielby, a 5-foot-7 freshman on the Redmen swim team, won two gold medals and a silver as McGill finished third at the second Quebec Cup league meet of the season, held in Quebec City, Saturday.

The 19-year-old electrical engineering major won the 400-metre individual medley in four minutes, 24.21 seconds, the third fastest time in school history. He also captured the grueling 1500m freestyle in 15:54.37 -- the second quickest time in McGill history -- and anchored the 4x200 freestyle relay to bronze in 3:33.27.

Bielby, a product of the Pointe Claire Swim Club, enrolled at McGill this year after graduating last spring from John Abbott College.

Leclerc-Auger, a 5-foot-5 forward, scored nine points, including six goals as the No.1-ranked hockey Martlets swept three games against teams from the Atlantic conference.

The 20-year-old physical education freshman tallied twice and added two helpers in a game versus Saint Mary's last Thursday, then followed that with a pair of goals against St.FX on Friday and a 2-1-3 record against Dalhousie, Saturday.

In the process, she became the fastest McGill player ever to reach the 20-goal plateau, accomplishing the feat in her 18 career contests. Leclerc-Auger has scored goals in each of her last five games and leads the team's overall scoring race with 22 goals and 38 points in 19 games.

Prior to enrolling at McGill, she won back-to-back league scoring titles with Collège de Saint-Jérôme.
