Bielby glitters with gold as Redmen finish second at Quebec Cup meet

MONTREAL -- McGill's Steven Bielby of Pte. Claire, Que., was named male athlete of the meet at the Universite de Montreal's CEPSUM pool, Friday. He won three gold medals (400 indiv. medley, 100 butterfly and 4x100 freestyle relay) and one silver (4x100 medley relay).

Bielby's winning times were 4:30.04, 56.26 and 3:28.05, respectively.

Accompanying him on the winning relay, which finished in 3:28.05, was Marc-Andre Benoit of Montreal, who led off Joe Toops of Evanston, Ill., Michael Luck of Montreal and Bielby in the anchor leg.

Luck also won gold in the 100m breaststroke, clocking in at 1:06.70

On the women's side, Rayven Snodgrass of Calgary paced the Martlets with three silver-medal finishes (100 fly, 4x100 MR, 4x100 FR).

The top freshman performance was by Lei Lopez, also from Calgary, who scored 17 of the team's 91 points and established three personal bests. She came in third in the 400 IM, third in the 200 backstroke, fourth in the 800 free and then swam in the B final of the 4x100 free relay.
