Published: 11 October 2010

MONTREAL - Ryan Besse of Aurora, Ont., and Sarah McCuaig of Waterloo, Ont., are the McGill University athletes of the week for the period ending Oct. 10, 2010.

Besse, a 5-foot-9, 165-pound attacker with the Redmen lacrosse team, racked up 16 goals and added a half-dozen assists in six games at the Ross-Victory Cup senior championship over the weekend, where he earned all-tournament honours. The 19-year-old economics sophomore scored at least one marker in each contest and registered back-to-back five-goal games against Abbotsford and Toronto, respectively. Besse enrolled at McGill in 2009 after graduating from St. Andrew's College in Aurora.

McCuaig, a 20-year-old physiology sophomore on the cross-country running team, finished first in a field of 41 at the Laval Open meet held on the Plains of Abraham, Saturday. The 5-foot-10 distance runner completed the four-kilometre course in 14 minutes, 46 seconds, winning the race by 24 seconds ahead of her next closest competitor. Her efforts guided McGill to a second-place finish at the five-team meet. McCuaig is a product of Sir John A. Macdonald secondary school in Waterloo.
