MONTREAL - Julia Bahen of Vancouver, B.C., and
Jeremy Hurdle of Ambler, Penn., are the McGill
University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub
& Grill, for the period ending Aug. 26, 2012.
Bahen, a 5-foot-8 midfielder on the women's soccer team, score a
pair of key goals in two weekend games, helping McGill capture the
Old Four tournament in Toronto. The 21-year-old international
development studies senior scored the game-winner on a penalty kick
in the 88th minute of a 2-1 win over Western in the gold medal game
on Sunday. Bahen also tallied in penalty kicks the previous day as
McGill edged Toronto 2-1. She opened the shootout session with a
goal en route to a 3-1 shootout victory. Prior to enrolling at
McGill in 2009, Bahen attended York House School in Vancouver.
Hurdle, a 5-foot-11, 165-pound midfielder and team captain on
the men's soccer team, also tallied twice in as many games as
McGill claimed bronze in the Old Four tourney. The 22-year-old
geography senior scored the winning marker in the 69th minute as
the Redmen edged Queen's 2-1 to claim the bronze medal match,
Sunday. The day before, he netted the tying marker in the 76th
minute to force a shootout session in a game that McGill eventually
lost 2-1 to host Toronto. Hurdle is a product of Wissahickon
high school in Pennsylvania.
Both athletes will receive a gift certificate from Ye Olde
Orchard Pub.
