Title of Talk: On the shoulders of students: A bibliometric study of Ph.D. students’ contributions to science
Graduate students are an important part of the academic workforce. In Québec, 11,865 students were enrolled in Ph.D. programs in 2005 and 1,278 graduated the same year. Still, little is known on their overall contribution to the advancement of knowledge. This talk will present the reflexive process through which this ongoing doctoral research on PhD students' contribution to science was designed and conducted, as well as preliminary results on the extent of this involvement.

The purpose of the SIS' Speaker Series is to give Ph.D. and masters
students in the School of Information Studies a behind-the-scenes
glimpse at research and the research process. There are four
speakers in the Fall term and another four speakers in the Winter
2010 term. Students and faculty from the Faculty of Education as
well as the wider McGill community are invited to attend.
