Speaker Series – Diane Mercier. Knowledge visualization in research.

Diane Mercier is a practitioner-researcher and consultant in knowledge transfer. She holds a Ph.D. in Information Sciences and a Masters in Computer Management. She will be discussing visualization of knowledge as a methodological approach that makes use of a combination of different techniques and technologies. It is particularly useful in information sciences for both research and practice. This seminar introduces and explains a typology based on connectivity ranging from heuristics to forecasting. It also demonstrates how the visualization of knowledge can be instrumental, aesthetic and emancipating approach, using a practical example. The process of a PhD thesis is described: project management, collecting and data analysis, interpretation and writing the thesis. An annnotated Webography with hundred of tools will be provided to all participants.
