This session will include Canadian critics and practitioners of indigenous art discussing what they see as the role of that art in a context of global indigeneity. Questions to be considered include: Is there a global aboriginal culture marked by shared themes and concerns? If so, does this culture receive the recognition that other international movements in the contemporary arts have received? What is the distinctive contribution of Canadian Aboriginal artists to any global movement or set of exchanges? What might be done to promote stronger exchanges between indigenous artists around the world?
