Calligraphy is arguably the most venerated form of Islamic art. Over the course of this session, participants will be introduced to the traditional means of transmission, the history of the book in the Arabic and Islamic culture, and the intricacies of the Arabic script. Participants will also have the opportunity for a tour of the rare Islamic manuscripts on display in the McLennan and to interact with other manuscripts, lithographs and early printed books in the McGill Islamic Studies Library’s Octagon room.
