The Neuro Film Series is back! On Wednesday, November 30, 2016 we present the awarding winning film “Séraphine” (2008) which swept the César Awards in 2009 with no less than seven awards! Séraphine is a French-Belgian film directed by Martin Provost and written by Marc Abdelnour and Provost. It is based on the life of French painter Séraphine de Senlis who battled with psychosis. The film focuses intently on Seraphine's delusions, on the manic state that overtakes her at the prospect of fame and fortune, about how she hides far inside so that Uhde cannot reach her.

Our Neuro host for this film is Josefina Maranzano. Dr. Maranzano was born in 1972 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She completed her medical degree in Buenos Aires and worked for several years in Argentina as a MD in Internal Medicine and Radiology. Dr. Maranzano immigrated to Quebec and worked for 8 years in medical research, specifically in brain imagery. Currently, she is a researcher specializing in MS in the laboratory of Dr. Douglas Arnold of the Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital, McGill University. It was here in Quebec that Dr. Maranzano developed a passion for visual arts and is an accomplished artist. She has participated in several exhibitions and exhibited ‘solo’ in Laprairie in 2013;  she has another ‘solo’  exhibit scheduled for this coming winter. Next year, Josefina will be participating in a collective exhibition organized by the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21: ''Canada: Day 1 in Halifax'', to mark the 150th anniversary of Canada.

In her own words, “As we know, one hemisphere of the brain is related to logic and analytical thinking, the other is responsible of our creativity. I think that when I immigrated from the south hemisphere to the north hemisphere, the two halves of my brain had the urge to start working with the same intensity. I'm now trying to balance my two hemispheres, or should I say my four?”
