For the whole faculty research community - This workshop aims to provide graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, junior researchers, etc. with an opportunity to both receive comments from their peers and audience on a writing project they are currently working on as well as practice reviewing the work of their peers themselves.

TITLE: Grantsmanship Tips and Tools: Best Practices for Successful Applications
PRESENTER: Michelle Picard- Aitken, Grants & Agreements Officer | Office of Sponsored Research
For the whole faculty research community - This workshop will present advice and strategies for preparing and writing successful grant applications, from selecting a funding agency to your final draft. Topics will include best practices for common grant application components, writing tips and tools, and an overview of the services provided by the Office of Sponsored Research that can add value to your proposals.
Following the presentation there will be a Q & A period with Michelle Picard-Aitken, Grants & Agreements Officer (OSR) and Rupa Narasimhadevara, Associate Director, Grants & Agreements (OSR).

Come learn about how to find RA jobs, the hiring process and how to be successful in your new position. A brief presentation including information on how to access library services will be followed by an extensive Q & A period.

TITLE: Qualitative and Quantitative Methods in Socio-Legal Research
PRESENTER: Sébastien Jodoin, Assistant Professor | Faculty of Law
For the whole faculty research community - This workshop will provide participants with an overview of key principles and issues in the design and application of qualitative and quantitative methods in socio-legal research. Topics to be discussed include: research design in the social sciences, the basic features of qualitative and quantitative methods, case selection principles and sampling strategies, the practical aspects of fieldwork, and ethical considerations. The workshop will also feature an exercise in which participants will be given the opportunity to imagine how one of the following methods might apply to their research: ethnography, narrative inquiry, process-tracing, and quantitative content analysis.
