Killam Program - McGill University Visit

The Canada Council for the Arts is coordinating visits to universities to provide information and advice on the Killam Program, which includes both the Killam Research Fellowship and the Killam Prize.  Researchers who anticipate submitting an application to the 2010 Killam Research Fellowship competition (deadline May 15) are strongly encouraged to attend this meeting.

Peter Morand, a former NSERC President (1990-1995) and currently a Special Advisor to the Canada Council for the Arts for the Killam Program, will give a general presentation on the Killam Program. The presentation will include historical and statistical information, explanations on eligibility and application requirements, tips on how to improve one's application and information on the electronic filing process. The presentation will be followed by a general question period. Dr. Morand will also be available, after the presentation (between 11:00 and 12:00) to meet with researchers on a one-on-one basis.

The Canada Council Killam Research Fellowship Program is designed to recognize and support distinguished Canadian scholars, normally full professors at Canadian universities and research institutes, who have established an outstanding reputation in their area of research. Killam Research Fellowships are offered on a competitive basis to support researchers in any of the following fields: humanities; social sciences; natural sciences; health sciences; engineering or studies linking any of the disciplines within these fields. Killam Research Fellowships are valued at $70,000 per year. They are "release time" fellowships, which provide two years of full release from teaching and administrative duties.

KILLAM PRIZES: Up to five prizes of $100,000 each are given annually to eminent Canadian scholars in recognition of distinguished career achievement in the natural sciences, health sciences, engineering, social sciences and humanities respectively. Nominees must be Canadian citizens.
