Lab # 1, PHI Centre & McGill University, CA, CA
Price:
Free for ISS Students; 150$ plus taxes for others

Instructor: Dr. Philip Roche, Bioengineer and Commercialisation Specialist, Jewish General Hospital, McGill University

Microstructured polymer doped with gold nanorods:

The microstructure is formed by the conflicting forces of adhesion and cohesion that occur between the polymer, the stamp and the substrate. The intense red colour comes from Mie Scattering of the gold Nano rods.

Summary

The two-day workshop will focus on a practical approach to surface modification related to sensors.

Students should expect to gain

  • a familiarity of language associated with the study and methodologies of surface chemistry
  • understanding of why surface chemistry/modification is an area worth great consideration in sensors research
  • basic familiarity with implementing surface modification protocols
  • tools for further study on individual research questions

Registration Details

All students should be prepared to complete a project description of their current research project during registration.

While priority will be given to ISS students who must take the workshop this year, other spaces will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

N.B: Cancellation requests must be made by 5:00 p.m. onFriday, November 27, 2015, 2015 for reimbursement (unless a medical note is provided).
