Traduttori, traditori (Translators, traitors) is an old Italian proverb. Are translators really traitors? Does translation undo or add to the confusion of tongues wrought by the destruction of the Tower of Babel? What role did translation play in the dissemination of ideas and the results of the voyages of discovery? These questions are addressed in the exciting and sometimes perplexing exhibition in the main hall of the McLennan Library Building. The exhibition is organized in conjunction with the conference of the Canadian Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies.
