Saturday, October 1, 2005 14:30to15:30
Education Building 3700 rue McTavish, Montreal, QC, H3A 1Y2, CA
Biological evolution is a scientific fact and the fundamental concept of all life sciences. Yet polls indicate 50% of Canadians and Americans reject evolutionary science, making evolution education the biggest failure of science education in North America. We'll explore the fear and rejection of evolution as it relates to music, science, religion, politics and education. Brian Alters, a Sir William Dawson Scholar, holds appointments in McGill's faculties of Education and Science, and in the Harvard College Observatory at Harvard University. He recently won McGill's highest teaching award, the Principal's Prize for Excellence in Teaching.
