Homecoming: The Beatty Memorial Lecture

Distinguished American environmentalist James Gustave Speth, Dean of the School of Forestry and Environmental Studies at Yale, will present the Beatty Memorial Lecture.

Author of the recently released "The Bridge at the End of the World: Capitalism, the Environment, and Crossing from Crisis to Sustainability", Speth is a leader in the global environmental movement. He served as administrator of the United Nations Development Program, chaired President Jimmy Carter’s Council on Environmental Quality, was founder and president of the World Resources Institute, and is co-founder of the Natural Resources Defense Council. His bestseller, "Red Sky at Morning: America and the Crisis of the Global Environment", was awarded Japan’s Blue Planet Prize for "creative and visionary leadership in the search for science-based solutions to global environmental problems." Dean Speth’s Beatty lecture is held in conjunction with the McGill School of Environment’s 10th anniversary celebrations.
