The Friends of the Library welcome Justice Rosalie Abella for the Annual F.R. Scott Lecture. The conference will be followed by a moderated Q&A session.

About the speaker

The Honourable Rosalie Silberman Abella earned a B.A. and an LL.B. from the University of Toronto after having studied piano at the Royal Conservatory of Music. She was called to the Ontario Bar in 1972 and practiced civil and criminal litigation until 1976 when she was appointed to the Ontario Family Court. She was appointed to the Ontario Court of Appeal in 1992 and in 2004, Justice Abella became the first Jewish woman appointed to the Supreme Court of Canada. She has written numerous publications, been awarded a great many distinguished awards and has received 35 honourary degrees. In 2016, she became the first Canadian woman to be awarded an honorary degree from Yale University.
