Current brain research continues to shed new light on the brain processes involved in decoding, comprehension and attention. Research has shown that certain teaching practices are more effective than others. In this session, these effective practices will be examined in practical and understandable ways.

LEARN:

  • How to use the essential ‘building blocks’ of lesson design for adult learners. Respond to specific challenges such as poor working memory, often experienced by students with ADD/ADHD
  • How and when to use effective teaching strategies, and why they make all the difference
  • How simple strategies for pre‐assessment, ongoing assessment, selfassessment and recoding of information can be used to track what and how students are learning

Karen Gazith, PhD, has taught in a number of special needs institutions and schools, including the Instrumental Enrichment Institute with Dr. Feuerstein. Karen is the Director of Education at the Bronfman Jewish Education Centre and an adjunct professor in the department of Educational and Counselling Psychology at McGill University.
