In honour of David and his dedication to better planning in the Caribbean and other parts of the world, the School of Urban Planning is creating "The David Brown Award for Planning Research and Education in Developing Areas."  The aim of this fellowship is to enable students to travel to the global South, learn about local conditions first-hand and develop skills to address local urban problems.  This may be done by means of studio projects for a city or community, field-work for research, academic exchanges, and other activities.  David has written a personal testimony on his overseas experience and of its meaning for his life and career; it reflects the spirit that drives us in creating the award.  Click here to see David’s testimony.

Gifts to the new award in David's honour can be made on the McGill Giving web site.  Please specify "School of Urban Planning, David Brown Award" when you make your donation.

Donations may also be made by sending a cheque to Anand Sood at: School of Urban Planning, McGill University, 815 Sherbrooke St. West, #400, Montréal, QC  H3A 0C2, Canada.  Cheques should be made out to “McGill University,” again with a reference to “"School of Urban Planning, David Brown Award.”
