Arts Building 853 rue Sherbrooke Ouest, Montreal, QC, H3A 0G5, CA

The third event of the series "Here/ Now: Contemporary First Nations Culture and Media" features a moderated discussion and Q&A with writer, director and journalist Marie-Hélène Cousineau, one of the most influential and dynamic figures in women's video production in the Canadian Arctic.

Since 1991, Cousineau has been producing and directing both fictional and documentary films such as Unakuluk, Dear Little One, Anaana/Mother and Ningiura/My Grandmother (co-directed with Mary Kunuk) and co-directed with Madeleine Ivalu the 2008 feature film Before Tomorrow, winner of the Best Canadian First Feature Film award at TIFF.  She has co-founded Tarriaksuk Video Centre and Arnait Video Productions in 1991, and continues to work with Igloolik Isuma Productions.

Cousineau will discuss the significance of women's video production in the North, cross cultural adaptation, collaborative filmmaking and her ground-breaking work developing cinematic production in the North, one of the most exciting and lively areas of contemporary Canadian film production.

Open to the public.
