College lumberjacks set for annual woodsmen competition at McGill’s Macdonald Campus

Lumberjacks and Jills from six Canadian universities will test their mettle at the 56th annual Intercollegiate Woodsmen Competition, Saturday January 23 at Watson Field, Macdonald Campus in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue.

Wood chips will fly as over 100 competitors vie for individual, doubles and team honours in traditional woodsmen events that include axe throwing, log rolling, pole climbing, water boil, snowshoe race and more. The events are a showcase of Canada’s rich history in forestry as celebrated by a whole new generation of lumberjacks.

A great outdoors event for the whole family, admission is free with plenty of parking available.

Competing Teams: Dalhousie, Sir Sanford Fleming, UNB, Macdonald College, Algonquin College, Dartmouth College (each team consists of 6 competitors, plus one alternate)

Ceremonial First Cut: 9 a.m.

Events run between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm
