Free public lecture:

Dr. Douglas Turkington, professor of psychosocial psychiatry and consultant psychiatrist, School of Neurology, Neurobiology and Psychiatry, Newcastle University, UK;
Dr. Alison Brabban, consultant clinical psychologist, University of Sunderland, England.

The treatment of schizophrenia requires a comprehensive approach. Research indicates that cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) increases treatment effectiveness in schizophrenia when added to usual care featuring medication and case management. An increasing number of mental health professionals and patients have discovered for themselves that CBT in patients with schizophrenia is acceptable, safe and gives good results.

This lecture will describe CBT for psychosis, and will include the demonstration of specific techniques using role play and DVD clips. All members of the general public are welcome. This talk is of special interest to individuals struggling with psychotic symptoms and their families and caregivers.
