Canada’s Archival Heritage, the University and You:  an Archivist’s Perspective

Theresa Rowat will discuss the Canadian archival system, its development and present challenges. As teaching and research institutions, universities play a special role in the building of this country’s archival legacy. When McGill’s archives was founded by Principal F. Cyril James in 1962, it was the first integrated archives and records program in a Canadian university. Today, archival holdings in public institutions continue to grow, largely thanks to donations from scholars, creators and collectors.

Theresa Rowat is Director, The Archive of the Jesuits in Canada, and sits on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Council of Archives. She served as Director and University Archivist, McGill University Archives, from 2007 to 2013.
