Broadcast - Mini-Music - Taking the Mystery Out of Compositional Process

Monday, November 26, 2012 03:00to04:00

This Mini-Music series takes a look at the creative process of music, revealing some of what to listen for and to look for behind the scenes. Joins us as we explore concepts of musical imagery, performance practice, critical listening, opera staging and production.

How did composers write music in the Renaissance? Music historians have usually described the process as a struggle with difficult musical techniques. We will present a performance of one of the top hits of the Renaissance, and show how it is built out of improvisable patterns. We will then create our own composition from scratch - with the help of the audience.
