11th Richard L Cuess Lecture on Bone Structure and Metabolism
It all began in 1972 when Dr Richard Cruess, at the time Chief-Surgeon at the Shriners, convinced the Shriners Board of Trustees to launch a research program. These activities rapidly expanded and have evolved today into a major research center focusing on pediatric musculo-skeletal diseases.
In 1990 under the joint sponsorship of the Shriners Hospitals and McGill University, the Cruess lectureship on bone structure and metabolism was initiated to acknowledge Dr Cruess’ leadership that guided the development of the Shriners Research programs and their close association with the Faculty of Medicine.
The Eleventh Cruess Lecturer is Dr Gerard Karsenty of the Department of Genetics and Development, Columbia University Medical Center (NY). He is an outstanding lecturer and a world-renowned expert in the endocrinology of the bone. His topic will be “Biology without wall: The new endocrinology of Bone”.
