Drs. Lands and Mazer Receipients of Sessenwein Award

The Department of Pediatrics is happy to announce Drs. Larry Lands and Bruce Mazer have been awarded the Sessenwein Award for a term of five years starting April 1, 2018.

Dr. Lands is presently Director of the Division of Respiratory Medicine and has an extensive track record as an independent investigator focusing on the immune challenges underlying cystic fibrosis and asthma.

Dr. Mazer, a former Division Director of Allergy, Immunology and Dermatology, is presently the Interim Scientific Director of the MUHC-RI. Dr. Mazer's research efforts have focused on the immunologic mechanisms underlying food allergies and asthma.

Both Drs. Lands and Mazer are Full Professors with Tenure and have achieved a high level of international recognition in their respective research fields. Both are clinician investigators, utilizing their clinical work and expertise to inform their research efforts in a translational way using both human and animal contexts for investigation. Both have devoted much of their time to mentoring younger colleagues.

The Sessenwein Award is funded by a generous Endowment form the Sessenwein Family established at the Montreal Children's Hospital Foundation. The Endowment's earnings are meant to recognize and support senior clinician investigators and has been awarded previously to such luminaries as Drs. Ron Barr and Paul Goodyer. For the past 5 years the Award has been held by Dr. Michael Kramer a world renowned perinatal epidemiologist and former Scientific Director of the IHDCYH of the CIHR.
